{"id":1105,"date":"2020-01-11T21:13:33","date_gmt":"2020-01-11T21:13:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/?p=1105"},"modified":"2020-01-11T21:13:35","modified_gmt":"2020-01-11T21:13:35","slug":"a-very-rainy-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/index.php\/2020\/01\/11\/a-very-rainy-day\/","title":{"rendered":"A Very Rainy Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For a change the weather prognosticators were right and Saturday morning was better day for a torpedo shoot than any kind of a rifle match.\u00a0 Over the course of the morning it went from a drizzle to a downpour and back \u2013 several times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We had changed the event from a Winter Offhand Match to an\nelectronic target learning session.&nbsp; It\nwas a learning session because all of us were going to figure out things about\nour system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was a brief introduction to the system and review of\nhow it works, and then we went over how we intend to set up targets for a\nmatch.&nbsp; We covered sensor setup, cables\nand target insert installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, we took all the time folks needed to figure out just\nhow to set up their display device (Smart Phones, dumb phones, tablets, Ipads,\nFires and whatever) to connect to our server system.&nbsp; It was good to see everyone helping one\nanother.&nbsp; No one person knows just how\neach and every device works, but one way or another, we figured out how to get everyone\nhooked up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I demonstrated how shots show up on the display, and then I\ndivided up the group into \u201cTarget 4\u201d and \u201cTarget 6\u201d teams and we shot a match\non the simulator.&nbsp; We shot slow fire\nstrings, we shot rapid fire strings, we learned how to handle cross fires and what\nto do about just out and out misses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were questions asked \u2013 some of which I could answer,\nsome we just haven\u2019t decided the answer as yet \u2013 and some I just don\u2019t know \u2013\nbut I\u2019ll find out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Probably the most amazing thing at the session was what we\nfound when we took a break.&nbsp; Most of us\nhave never been out at the range in a serious rain storm, so today was a first\nfor us.&nbsp; Check out the pictures of the\ncreek.&nbsp; The creek flows from north to\nsouth (right to left) across the range.&nbsp;\nOn the north side of the bridge that crosses to the 100-yard targets,\nwater had backed up like the bridge and culvert was a dam.&nbsp; Drift junk has piled up like a beaver dam on\nthe north side of the bridge and just to the south of the bridge water was\nspilling into the ditch like a waterfall.&nbsp;\nWhat a mess!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Flood2-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1104\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Flood2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Flood2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Flood2-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>That&#8217;s not water over dam &#8211; it&#8217;s water over the bridge &#8211; with a waterfall just downstream.
