{"id":1172,"date":"2020-05-10T20:17:02","date_gmt":"2020-05-10T20:17:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/?p=1172"},"modified":"2020-05-11T22:43:16","modified_gmt":"2020-05-11T22:43:16","slug":"may-9th-inaugural-electronic-target-match","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/index.php\/2020\/05\/10\/may-9th-inaugural-electronic-target-match\/","title":{"rendered":"May 9th &#8211; Inaugural Electronic Target Match"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Range-View-1024x710.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1167\" width=\"686\" height=\"476\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Range-View-1024x710.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Range-View-300x208.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Range-View-768x533.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Range-View.jpg 1409w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 686px) 100vw, 686px\" \/><figcaption>Electronic Targets at the ready- The wind hasn&#8217;t picked up as yet!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Saturday, May 9th was the inaugural 50\/80 Match on the new Silver Mountain electronic targets.&nbsp; Our target setup can support five active shooters per relay (one target is held as a spare in case something happens with an active target) and we had scheduled two relays in the morning session and two relays in the afternoon session.&nbsp; Twenty shooters quickly pre-registered for the two sessions and as things progressed, three shooters had to drop out and they were quickly replaced with three more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saturday morning dawned as a frosty morning; there was frost on the grass over much of the range \u2013 but the wind was initially calm.&nbsp; We had scheduled to have our first shot go down range at 9:00, but the first and second relay had gathered by 8:40 and when Jim Sweeney, the FWRR President arrived for the First Shot Ceremony, we got things under way.&nbsp; Jim noted that &#8220;&#8230; the future of organized High Power shooting was moving toward electronic targets and this match marked the start of a new chapter of FWRR High Power.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Jim-1-626x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1173\" width=\"345\" height=\"563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Jim-1-626x1024.jpg 626w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Jim-1-183x300.jpg 183w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 345px) 100vw, 345px\" \/><figcaption>Jim Sweeney fires the Ceremonial First Shot at the Inaugural Electronic Target match<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As the first and second relays moved through the match, the\ncalm wind conditions that existed at the start of the match quickly changed &#8211; and\ngusty, cold and blustery winds became the rule.&nbsp;\nIn accordance with social distancing guidelines, competitors were asked\nto wear masks except when actually shooting and it turned out that masks came\nin handy just to keep noses warm!&nbsp; By the\ntime we moved back to 300-yards, several shooters were heard to make the\ncomment \u201cI can\u2019t feel my fingers\u201d.&nbsp; Such is\nMay in Indiana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, if High Power shooters aren\u2019t complaining about being\nhot, they have cold to mumble about, so we went back to 300-yards and finished\nthe match. The morning session closed out about 11:15; two-and-a-half hours for\nan 80-round Regional Match Course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the morning shooters packed up and headed to the house to\nwarm up, the afternoon relays took to the course.&nbsp; We started about 12:00-noon and finished at\n3:00.&nbsp; The afternoon relays might not\nbeen as cold as the morning, but the winds became even more blustery as the day\nprogressed.&nbsp; One afternoon competitor\nmeasured winds at 25 MPH with gusts to 32+MPH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/A-Windy-Day-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1174\" width=\"414\" height=\"311\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/A-Windy-Day-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/A-Windy-Day-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/A-Windy-Day-1-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 414px) 100vw, 414px\" \/><figcaption>Relays 3 and 4 &#8211; Sitting Rapid.  Note the wind ribbon  on the scope stand<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>But all in all, it was a good day.&nbsp; Competition for top spot was close, but Joe\nBakies from the Lima Sabers \u201cCreedmored\u201d &nbsp;FWRR\u2019s Mike King to take top honors for the\nday<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Match Winner:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Joe\nBakies&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 772-25X<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Second Place:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mike\nKing&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 772-22X<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Third Place:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mark Richard&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 762-18X<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>High Junior:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Madeline\nSchnelle (Wildcat Valley)&nbsp; 564-&nbsp; 4X<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The electronic target system worked well.&nbsp; There were some issues with targets going off\nthe air, but we believe that this is due to some super-cheap Chinese cables\nsupplied with the batteries.&nbsp; We have\nreplaced those cables with regular cheap Chinese cables and we believe that should\neliminate cables as an issue.&nbsp; We also\nhad several bullets just vanish on the way to the target (probably about five\nbullets), but we believe that the extremely blustery winds might have had\nsomething to do with that.&nbsp; A 99.68%\narrival rate isn\u2019t bad for a first outing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I want to offer special thanks to the crew who acted as \u201cPit\nSitters\u201d for us; Marty Didion and Chip Seidel in the morning session (thanks\nfor the donuts Marty) and Mike King and Mike Bailey for the afternoon.&nbsp; Having people in the pits to resolve battery\nand cable issues as well as swap out target faces was a huge factor in moving\nthe matches along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, as always, another huge <strong><em>THANK YOU<\/em><\/strong> to\nGlenna and Mike Grannis for their willingness to be my Stat Office; collecting\nmoney and registrations, gathering and tallying scores and just running around\nand helping in a lot of places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our next match will\nbe June 13th \u2013 the second Saturday in June.&nbsp;\nAs of now I plan to run five relays in this match; two morning and three\nafternoon relays and I plan to start the match at 8:00 so we won\u2019t run so late\nin the afternoon.&nbsp; By 8:00 we have absolutely\nfantastic light on those white plastic target faces and it will make for a good\nearly session.&nbsp;
