As Winter Offhand days go \u2013 it wasn\u2019t that bad of a day.  At 33 degrees, it wasn\u2019t precipitating anything, the wind wasn\u2019t bringing tears to eyes or numbing fingers \u2013 it was just Indiana grade December dark and gloomy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nine shooters came out, but two retired because of back\nissues with seven shooters finishing up the day. As one of the \u201cretirees\u201d commented;\n\u201cIt\u2019s heck getting old!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The top three scores for the day were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mike King            390\n\u2013 8X<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doc Habel           382\n\u2013 7X<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mia King              364\n\u2013 8X<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the Winter Offhand season, to date \u2013 standings are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mike King            775\n\u2013 17X<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark Walters     716 \u2013   5X<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mia King              710\n\u2013 12X<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miss Mia, recently voted into membership as the first Junior (a girl even) member of the Fort Wayne Rifle and Revolver Club, came in third for the day and currently stands in third place for the season aggregate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But, the high point of the day came from Tayt, our most\njunior of Junior shooters.  I\u2019m starting\nhim off by having him shoot off bags to let him learn sight picture, trigger\ncontrol and to learn the mechanics of running the AR platform.  For the first stage I stressed to him that\njust where the group landed wasn\u2019t all that critical, the important thing was\nto get them all in the same area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the shooters brought targets back from the first string, Tayt was waving his target and hollering; \u201cI hit the target, I hit the target!\u201d  Indeed he had hit the target with a group about the size of my hand up at 12- o\u2019clock right at the edge of the 5-ring.  He scored a rip-roaring 32-0X on that string, but indeed \u2013 he had hit the target.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is my payoff for working with the Juniors. I never saw anyone so happy with a 32-0X string of fire. <\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We made an elevation change on his scope (down 10-minutes) and on the next string he shot a considerably improved score; 190 -3X.  Nineteen of his twenty shots were in the black with one mid-ring 8.  I think we\u2019re making progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today’s match closed out the year for formal High Power activities.  I want to thank everyone for all of their support and I look forward to having a good High Power year in 2023.<\/strong>
