{"id":2277,"date":"2023-08-04T14:16:34","date_gmt":"2023-08-04T14:16:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/?p=2277"},"modified":"2023-08-04T14:16:35","modified_gmt":"2023-08-04T14:16:35","slug":"august-2023-fwrr-newsletter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/index.php\/2023\/08\/04\/august-2023-fwrr-newsletter\/","title":{"rendered":"August 2023 FWRR Newsletter"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>FWRR Club Meeting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next meeting of\nthe Fort Wayne Rifle and Revolver Club will be held on Monday, August 7,2023.&nbsp; Meeting Place: VFW Post\n857, located at 2202 West Main Street in Fort Wayne.&nbsp; Meeting &nbsp;Time: 7:00 p.m.&nbsp; Food and drink will be\navailable at very reasonable prices before and after the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meeting Agenda:&nbsp; Standard meeting&nbsp; format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please make an effort\nto attend meetings, as a quorum is required to conduct club business.&nbsp;\nSincere thanks to members who take the time to attend meetings and to support\nthe club in so many other ways.&nbsp; You truly understand what it means to be\nmembers of a club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Proposed Annual Dues\nIncrease<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Dues Committee&#8217;s proposal to increase annual dues from $60.00\nto $120.00 was not accepted by the membership.&nbsp; This topic will be\nrevisited at a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maintenance Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ditch banks were\nmowed. As usual, thanks go to Ted Smeltzer. A fluorescent light ballast and\nbulb were replaced in the south building. Thanks go to Matt Hice for picking up\nmaterials and Martin Didion and Jim Sweeney for the repair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New Members<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please welcome new\nmember Robert A. Ash who was inducted as a full member at the June 2023 meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reminders<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>AERIAL TARGETS MAY NO\nLONGER BE SHOT ON FWRRC PROPERTY<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong>&nbsp; This change was made primarily due to lack of an adequate\nshot-fall safety zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BEFORE DRIVING DOWN\nRANGE TO THE 200 AND 300 YARD TARGET HOLDERS, CHECK THE RANGE STATUS SIGN.<\/strong>&nbsp; Be aware that\nthe range status sign is not visible from the 300 yard firing line from some\nvehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sad News<\/strong>:  It was recently learned that Doug Doehrman (membership date 2014) passed away in May of this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Discipline Reports<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ACPDL (Allen County Practical Defense League)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matches will be held\non August 5<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;and September 9<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp; Only ACPDL members are\npermitted to shoot.&nbsp; The pre-match meeting begins at 9:00 a.m. and\nshooting commences at 9:30 a.m.&nbsp; Matches are typically finished by 12:00\nnoon.&nbsp; Observers and those persons interested in becoming ACPDL members\nare welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>USPSA matches are held\non the third Sunday, April \u2013 October.&nbsp; Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.\nand shooting commences at 10:00 a.m.&nbsp; FWRRC membership is not a\nrequirement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>High-power (HP)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>High-power rifle\nmatches (National Match Course) will be held on August 12th&nbsp;(8:00 a.m.)\nand September 9th&nbsp;(9:00 a.m.)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shooters have the option of firing either a 50 or an 80 round\nmatch. 50\/80 matches are sanctioned by both the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship\nProgram) and the NRA.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A 100-yard match is scheduled for September 14th\u00a0at 4:30 p.m. Practice  are typically held on Thursday afternoons at 4:30 p.m.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Main Range is closed at 3:00 p.m. on practice days to permit\nmowing firing points and setting up targets.&nbsp;&nbsp;Pistol Bays 4 and 5 will be open during HP\npractice sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cowboy Action<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cowboy Action matches are scheduled for the fourth Saturday of May through October.\u00a0 Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. for regular matches and at 9:00 a.m. for voluntary side matches.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regular match start time is 10:00 a.m.\u00a0 The matches begin with a mandatory shooter\u2019s meeting. The ammunition requirements for the regular match are 60 rounds for pistols, 60 rounds rifles, and 30 rounds for shotguns.\u00a0 Only lead bullets and shot are permitted.\u00a0 Shot may be no larger than #4 (shot sizes 4 \u2013 9).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Range Mowing and\nMaintance\/Improvement Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mowing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2023 Mowing\nSchedule is posted on the&nbsp;FWRRC\nwebsite.&nbsp; Dates are\ntentative, depending on weather and ground conditions.&nbsp; Mowing times vary\naccording to volunteer availability.&nbsp; Efforts will be made to provide\nmowing dates and times on the website.&nbsp; The Main Range is closed during\nmowing and other range maintenance activities but Pistol Bays 4 and 5 will\nremain open.&nbsp; It is recommended that members check the website (<a href=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/<\/a>)\nfor updates before traveling to the range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are interested\nin joining the mowing crew, contact Marty Didion at martindidion4@gmail.com.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maintance \/Improvement\nActivities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Work primarily aimed\nat improving water flow to eliminate damp areas and ponding, is expected to be\nperformed in the August- September time frame.&nbsp; The grading work will be\nperformed when weather and ground conditions permit.
