{"id":2454,"date":"2024-04-01T18:08:27","date_gmt":"2024-04-01T18:08:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/?p=2454"},"modified":"2024-04-01T18:08:28","modified_gmt":"2024-04-01T18:08:28","slug":"march-madness-3-x-600-match","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/index.php\/2024\/04\/01\/march-madness-3-x-600-match\/","title":{"rendered":"March Madness 3 x 600 Match"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By the end of March, High Power shooters begin to get antsy.&nbsp; Among the gray, wet nasty days there are\nenough teasingly nice days to make people want to get out to the range and\nshoot.&nbsp; A group of guys who had carried\non a \u201chalf-NMC\u201d competition over the winter wanted to shoot (more about that\nlater) \u2013 so with a bit of urging we set up a March Madness 3 x 600 match for\nMarch 30th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>March 30 broke dark, gray with intermittent to steady drizzle at start time.\u00a0 But, the weather did not\u00a0 stop 10 dedicated high power shooters.\u00a0 Rain fell steadily as we started setup about 8:30 and we had the usual first match of the season issues.\u00a0 Folks had to figure out which color cable went where and one server decided to go on strike and it took all of us a while to get things switched over.\u00a0 By about 9:00 it had slowed down to a sprinkle and we set up canopies on the firing line to keep things dry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"509\" src=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/tent-city-1024x509.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2455\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/tent-city-1024x509.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/tent-city-300x149.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/tent-city-768x382.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong><em>Yeah, it really was that dark as\nwe set up the canopies<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But \u2013 as the day went on, things improved.&nbsp; By 10:00 the rain had stopped and midway\nthrough the match the sun came out and it was a beautiful day to shoot!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Sunny-Range-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2456\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Sunny-Range-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Sunny-Range-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Sunny-Range-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong><em>The sun came out and we had\nbeautiful light to shoot<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, with the sun came some wind.\u00a0 One canopy blew over and another blew around. We moved them out of the way and kept shooting.\u00a0 It was a laid back match \u2013 no time limits, unlimited sighters, along with coaching allowed and help fixing guns. Everyone shot in the same category \u2013 a mix of Service, Palma, Match \u00a0and F-Class rifles.\u00a0 At this level of shooting, the shooter is the major factor.\u00a0 Some fantastic scores were posted for the day.\u00a0 Sixteen strings of over 195 were posted with five 199\u2019s and 4 perfect 200 strings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tom Bonner took top honors for the day (service rifle) with a 598-40X aggregate.\u00a0 Mike King (service rifle) followed closely with a 597-32X (but, he did get a canopy dropped on his head\u2026) and Bryan Scott took third with 594-21X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Jack-Baker-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2457\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Jack-Baker-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Jack-Baker-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Jack-Baker-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong><em>A special note; <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Mark Richard is determined to\nmake the FatRat shoot!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the day just about everyone decided that we\nneeded to do it again next year.&nbsp; And \u2013\nthe &nbsp;FWRR Juniors benefitted by receiving\n$100 from match entry fees and another $70 from shooters who donated their\nprize winnings to the Junior Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WINTER HALF-RMC RESULTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the winter a group of shooters organized a \u201cHalf-RMC\u201d\nMatch.&nbsp; These matches were shot after\nWinter Offhand matches and at other times.&nbsp;\n40-round matches were shot at 100-yards on reduced targets; 10-rounds offhand,\nsitting rapid, prone rapid and prone slow.&nbsp;\nFour matches were shot over the course of the winter and shooters had\nhandicaps (like golf or bowling) to make the matches more competitive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The top three shooters fired all five matches and the final standings\nwere:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark Walters&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 1982-46X<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gary Mabis&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 1974-51X<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mike King&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 1968-53X\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to Gary Mabis for organizing these matches &#8211;
