Things were not looking good for the Indiana Junior State Championship Match. Saturday, June 14 dawned cloudy with a steady drizzle.  Twenty shooters and spectators gathered in the clubhouse and under the canopy and watched the rain fall.  Weather radars showed green and yellow rainfall southwest of Fort Wayne moving toward the northeast, but it looked like the rain just might go a bit south of the range at Harlan. Our 9:00 AM start time came and went, and by about 9:30 the rain had dwindled to a misty curtain and someone said; \u201cLet\u2019s go ahead and at least we might get in the 200-yard stages\u201d \u2013 so we went to the line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nine Junior shooters and ten senior shooters gathered up their gear and we went out into the misty rain.  We managed to squeeze the nineteen shooters into two relays with two shooters pair firing on their target.  As the match went along, we had a period of just downright rain, but nothing hard enough to drive shooters off of the range or to cause a major distraction to shooters \u2013 fortunately, no lightning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rain was an annoyance, but not a major distraction with many shooters posting impressive scores.  When everyone gathered after the match to check scores, Marshall Rohrbach was the new Indiana State Junior High Power Champion, posting a 778-21X score.  Logan Becker took second place with his 763-23X, Creedmooring Mia King for third place with her 763-17X tally.<\/p>\n\n\n

Mia King took the Bronze medal award for the match<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the senior category, Geoff Branson took top honors with an impressive 786-34X, followed by Jim Jackson with 778-27X and Mike King with 770-31X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had a catered lunch and if anyone went hungry \u2013 it was their own fault.  We had an awards ceremony and awards presentation, the rain had stopped and we went back to the range and fired a Garand Match.  In the Garand Match, Mike King and Gary Mabis took Gold Medal awards in the Unlimited Modern Military class and Mark Walters (even with his bum knee) took a Silver award with the As-Issued M1 Garand. Seven Bronze medals were awarded in M1 Garand, 1903 Springfield and Modern Military classes.<\/p>\n\n\n
