{"id":2916,"date":"2025-08-18T12:17:58","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T12:17:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/?p=2916"},"modified":"2025-08-18T15:06:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T15:06:08","slug":"2916","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/index.php\/2025\/08\/18\/2916\/","title":{"rendered":"The 2025 Leonard Johnson Memorial Match"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Leonard Johnson Memorial Match, as its name implies, honors Leonard Johnson \u2013 a long time member of the Fort Wayne Rifle and Revolver Club and collegiate small-bore champion shooter.&nbsp; The Match is an acknowledgement of our FWRR family and this year\u2018s match was unique in the family aspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those who do not know the course of fire of the match, we claim it to be the Toughest Team Match in the Country.&nbsp; Just what makes it so tough?&nbsp; Well to start the match we shoot on the MR-42 target which is the 300-yard SR3 target reduced to a 200-yard size.&nbsp; So what makes that so hard?&nbsp; We shoot at that reduced target with .22 rimfire rifles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, we move back to 300-yards, switch from rimfire .22\u2019s over to center fire rifles and do it again &#8211; shoot the same 200-yard reduced target at 300-yards.&nbsp; Those scoring rings get really close together at 300-yards!&nbsp; It makes for a challenging and fun match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We had a good turn-out; eight teams \u2013 sixteen shooters.&nbsp; Of those eight teams, four were father and son teams and one team was a Leonard Johnson Match first \u2013 a husband and wife team.&nbsp; Another first was that a team of our Junior shooters shot in the match.&nbsp; And, one more aspect of family history \u2013 at least three shooters came out and shot rifles that represented two to four generations of family history.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_0898-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2917\" style=\"width:482px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_0898-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_0898-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_0898-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_0898-1-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_0898-1.jpg 2016w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><em>Fathers and Sons &#8211; left to right:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><em>Jess and Patrick Jessup, Brian and Killian Grimm, T.J. and Ashton Hovey and Jerry and Doug Johnson<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"687\" src=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Jerry-and-Doug-1024x687.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2918\" style=\"width:538px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Jerry-and-Doug-1024x687.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Jerry-and-Doug-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Jerry-and-Doug-768x515.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fwrrclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Jerry-and-Doug.jpg 1441w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><em>Jerry and Doug Johnson; son and grandson of Leonard Johnson<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A father and son team took top honors in the match. Jerry and Doug Johnson (Johnson and Johnson) took first place with a team aggregate of 750-19X.&nbsp; Doug Johnson also took top honors in both the .22 rimfire stage (a double clean 200-8X) and the center fire stage (196-8X). Your correspondent would not want to make a definite judgment, but from Teri\u2019s comment as she left the line at 300-yards &#8211; hot, tired and drenched in sweat from the heavy shooting coat &#8211; I don\u2019t think she sees the great attraction we have for this particular sport.
