The gales of March 13th subsided overnight and on Saturday March 14th we had very decent conditions to close out the 2025-2026 Winter Offhand season.  It was overcast, but after a day of near- 60MPH winds – there was no appreciable wind to annoy the seven shooters and three guests who came to the match.

Before I give season results, let’s recap the season rules.  We have a Junior and Senior division, with a winner in each division.  Our schedule is five matches; November through March.  We assume that at least one of our matches will be cancelled because of weather (the December ice storm was our weather cancellation this season) and mandatory family occasions will keep shooters out of one more match.  As a result – the season championship is decided by the top three scores each shooter posts.  If you only shoot three matches – they had better be pretty good scores and if you shoot all four matches you can throw out your lowest score.

Coming into the final match of the season, Marshall Rohrbach had the top aggregate, and he had shot every match so he had a score to drop out if needed.  Jim Jackson, Mark Walters, Doc Habel and Mia King were also at the top of the aggregate scores – so the season was up for grabs depending on who shot and how well they did. Mike King had missed a match early, so he was lagging by one score – but there was this final match left.

Mark Walters didn’t shoot Saturday – he had to get things together for the trip to Talledega and Mike King showed up to shoot – so it was going to be (pardon the pun) a shootout for the season win.

When the last CEASE FIRE had been called, Mike King had taken the top slot with a 386-6X, followed by Marshall Rohrbach with 381-6X.  Jim Jackson took third with 377-6X and Mia King was the top Junior and fourth overall with her 374-4X.

Was Mike’s 5 point spread over Marshall going to be enough to take the season title? Today’s 381-6X was Marshall’s low score for the season, so he was able to drop that score.

Marshall’s top three scores were:  386- 8X         391- 8X              388- 9X                 Aggregate  1165 – 25X

Mike’s top three scores:          382-10X           391-12X          386- 6X            Aggregate   1159 – 22X

Marshall edged Mike out for the season championship by 6 points.

Congratulations to Marshall on taking the 2025-2026 Winter Offhand Championship in his first season as a “Senior” shooter!

And  —   after I sent out the preliminary match results, I received the following email note from Mike King:

Good Job goes out to Marshall!”

Jim Jackson was third place with a 1142-19X three-match aggregate and Junior Girl Mia King was top Junior and fourth overall with 1128-11X for her best three matches.

The regular High Power season starts with a 50/80/100 Match on April 11th, so come out early (and brave the Spring weather) and start off the High Power season with us.
