We closed out the Fort Wayne Rifle and Revolver Club High Power season with a 3 x 20 Prone Match on Saturday, October 17th – but I am just now getting around to posting the story of the match.  Fall was upon us – so we started the match an hour later at 10 o’clock to get better light on the range and to give folks another hour to sleep.

It had rained for a couple of days coming up to the match and there were still some lingering showers early Saturday morning, but by the time we were ready to start shooting – it was a fantastically clear, beautiful day.  Eighteen shooters, including four Juniors came out to shoot and we had a variety of shooting irons at the match.  We had Service rifles, Match rifles, Palma rifles and even some F-Class rifles show up to shoot.

Some days it pays to get up early

Even if it is a bit brisk …..

Ready on the firing line …..

In the Service rifle class, Doc Habel took top honors with a 559-12X outing. The high Junior was Tayt McDaniel (only two points behind Doc) with a 557-7X.

Our Juniors take a really different approach to scoring, but – whatever works!

In Match rifles, Mike King seriously Creedmoored Jim Jackson with a 593-32X to Jim’s 593-19X.

In the Palma group, to no one’s surprise, Joe Bakies took the top place with 597-31X.  Tom Nagle was the high F-Class shooter with 549-9X.

We will start the Winter Offhand matches on Saturday, November 14th at 9:00 followed by the Winter High Power half-matches at about 10:00 or whenever the Offhand matches finish.

I know – that is the first day of rifle deer season, but if you’re not sitting in a deer stand – come out and shoot with us!
